On the back of the present recession the ConDem government is sticking the knife into the rights and living standards of working class young people. The recent Browne review has proposed that the government lifts the cap on university tuition fees, lumbering students with three decades worth of debt. A huge assault on the jobs and services of working class people is currently underway.
The Youth Fight for Jobs campaign has been organising young people to fight back against the onslaught. Launched in Jan 2009, we organised a successful demonstration in London on the day that the G20 convened. We also held a demo against youth unemployment, tuition fees and cuts to higher education in November of last year. The campaign has attracted significant media attention and the support of six national Trade Unions.
We will be holding our national conference on 4th December. This event will be an important part of bringing together young trade unionists, the unemployed, anti-cuts activists and students to discuss how best to build the fight back. This will be a great opportunity to have your say in shaping the future of the campaign. It will also be a chance also for people who want to fight the bosses onslaught to hear from those who are already leading the struggle for our right to a decent future.
The conference won’t be just about talk, we will be making sure that we have a fighting strategy to take on the government and its big business backers.
